We’ve taken measured and meaningful climate action through Offset Climate Certified™ for events, making our experience together better for people and our planet
We collaborated with Offset Alliance to measure the most relevant emissions created by our retreat, and offset 150% of this measurement through Offset Alliance’s portfolio of global carbon reduction projects.
Emissions from attendees driving to the retreat, and airport transfers to the hotel property. Did you know? Each gallon of gasoline bought and burned adds about 25 pounds of CO2e to our atmosphere? DEFRA
Nightly reserved rooms for attendees, retreat venue space, and food & beverage supplied throughout the retreat. Did you know? Across the U.S. the average nightly hotel stay adds about 70 pounds of CO2e to our atmosphere? HCMI
Flights taken by attendees to get here. Did you know? This is typically the biggest source of emissions for travelers–each seat on a r/t flight from NYC to LAX adds about 2,350 pounds of CO2e to our atmosphere. ICAO
Calculations represented in metric tonnes (mT) of CO2 and CO2e, and based on published emission factors from US EPA, UK DEFRA, EIA, UN ICAO and HCMI.
Projects around the world are being funded and created to lower CO2e levels in our atmosphere–like rebuilding forests, conserving wild lands and installing renewable energy to replace the burning of fossil fuels. When projects are developed to and verified against rigorous, publicly available standards–they can generate and sell carbon offset credits. This is an important funding source for many projects to get started–for their ongoing operations, and to help ensure their continued success. When you purchase carbon offset credits, you financially support these projects for making measured and verified CO2e reductions. One carbon offset represents the reduction or removal of one metric tonne (2,205 pounds) CO2e from the atmosphere–for reference it takes about 44 mature trees an entire year to draw down this much CO2e. South Dakota
Crow Lake is lowering the carbon intensity of electricity production in one of the US’s top energy consuming states per capita–South Dakota.
Why it’s important: demonstrates a successful and inclusive transition to renewable energy–including local community members and a not-for-profit, wholesale electric generation and transmission cooperative.
Carbon Standard: Verra UN SDGs: 7, 8, 11, 13
COLORADO
SPLT is an accredited land trust leveraging carbon finance to acquire and preserve shortgrass prairie ecosystems in Colorado.
Why it’s important: avoids land conversion to agriculture / commercial development and provides refuge for native wildlife including the swift fox, ferruginous hawk, burrowing owl, and mountain plover.
Carbon Standard: Climate Action Reserve UN SDGs: 13, 15
BRAZIL
Salto Pilão is a run-of-river hydroelectric plant lowering the carbon intensity of increasing electricity production in southern Brazil.
Why it’s important: avoids the addition of fossil fuel intensive energy production, and increases the share of renewables as energy demand rises due to economic growth in the region.
Carbon Standard: Verra UN SDGs: 7, 8, 9, 13
